In the final semester of Dawson College’s graphic design program, students are tasked to make a poster that would be the theme of the graduating exhibition. The mandate was to create something that encapsulates the program as a whole. The design had to be flexible enough for different applications.
Although this festival portrays itself as a giant summertime party in the heart of Parc Jean-Drapeau. The heart of Piknic Electronic has always been about electronic music. This approach will highlight its importance which will give the event a fresh new start.
Creating an animation that enhances the music with graphically rhythmic motion.Through the process of dynamically animating each letter of the festival, curiosity and the appreciation of the music will be elevated.

I decided to focus on the fundamental principles that we learned throughout the program: dynamism, tension and contrast. Given how unique the year 2020 was, I had chosen to represent it graphically through its roman numeral equivalent, MMXX. Custom typography was made to fully explore the three principles.
Unique and flexible. The result is a strong graphic poster that highlights dynamism, tension and contrast. The strict grid of the custom type allows for a seamless design. This pushes the boundaries of flexibility & interchangeability which is perfect for different applications.
